Wurm is a skill lead game. When you start, you can barely do anything, checking out your skills by pressing F2 while using the intuitive client will reveal a miserable set of skills. But from the moment you pick up a shovel and start digging, your digging skill starts to build. You chop down a tree and your wood cutting skill increases. Fight a deer with a sword and your fight skill increases. Fight a spider and you die. Okay, so that wasn't so clever. Many things in Wurm are hard to do, requiring patience and skill. But anyone can build skill in Wurm. Anyone can be a mason, a carpenter, a blacksmith, a weapons smith, a digger, a cook, a handyman (or woman), a tailor, a leather worker – it is all there to learn, just pick up a tool and get working!

Oh, but I like to fight people!

Okay, a lot of games do that. In fact most games seem to do ONLY that in reality. But not Wurm. On the lands of Wurm you have a choice.

Join the Wild server (either at sign up, or build a boat and sail there from home) and welcome to the world of in-your-face confrontation. Past that point, however, more and more gameplay will require a good team of players, usually two to five in number. Large-scale raids can require up to 40 players to succeed.
